Man injured after Ingleton waterfall plunge

A MAN fell 14 metres onto rocks near a Yorkshire Dales waterfall this afternoon.

A 54-year-old canyoner sustained head and serious leg injuries when he slipped at the top of a 14m jump at Beezley Falls, Ingleton, and hit rocks on the way down.

The Cave Rescue Organisation and fire crews from across the North were called to the incident at around 4pm today.

Members of the man's party kept him supported in the pool until cave rescuers arrived at the scene.

Following initial treatment by a team doctor and a paramedic the man was placed on a stretcher in the water and hauled up onto a rock ledge for further treatment prior to being winched into a RAF helicopter for transport to hospital.

Kendal fire and rescue service were joined by crew members from Kirkby Lonsdale, Bentham, Richmond and Ripon.

Cave Rescue personnel and RAF Sea King helicopter left the incident at 7pm.

An air ambulance attended but was not used.

Yet another numptie indulging himself in so-called extreme sports. Extreme lunacy more like. Pity the bugger didn't smash himself to bits instead of wasting precious time and money for those volunteer rescuers!
