A characteristic feature of Lakeland farm architecture is the Spinning Gallery. This one at Yew Tree Farm, near Coniston, has been frequently photographed.
These galleries may well have been used for spinning on fine evenings, but more often, they were used as a convenient means of access to the upper floor from outside or acted as storage spaces.
