Whether the bullies, the hard-boiled and the ruthless among us are happy and well balanced people is not my main interest right now.

What concerns me is that such people do often appear to ‘get on in the world’.

This forces me to consider the astonishing reversal of values both taught and lived by Jesus Christ and ask do his values still have relevance today?

Repeatedly Jesus told his followers: “Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Jesus was nailed to a wooden cross and died. Then, there was another reversal. Jesus rose from the dead which is what we celebrate at Easter. That changed everything. Since that day his followers have been enabled to glimpse the deepest level of reality that can be known on this earth.

They possess the simple truth that the greatest thing we can do is spend our lives serving others rather than ourselves.
