I read the ‘Picture from the Past’ (Nostalgia, July 31) which showed girls sitting in the grounds of a country estate.

Yes, Pull Wood House on Windermere is likely to be correct, as this house is now owned by Pullwood Bay Estates.

However, I remember it as Huyton Hill School, near Ambleside, which I attended from 1961 to 1963.

The school moved there when the Second World War started in 1939, from Huyton near Liverpool.

The house was originally owned by the Crossley family, and I believe one of Mr Crossley’s enterprises was making ambulances for our troops in the First World War.

Directly behind the girls is the entrance to our dining room, looking very ornate in the picture.

I wonder why everyone is on this small patch of lawn. Behind the man wearing the boater it’s vast enough for the dogs to have a good runaround. Maybe some celebration was happening.

The other side of the house can still be seen today, by the lake opposite Waterhead.
