REMEMBER: I’M NOT A CELEBRITY SO YOU WON’T READ THIS by D R Hall, £8.95

IN THIS breezy biography, Derek Hall reveals the story of his sometimes chaotic life, starting with his formative years in Liverpool and concluding with current life in Yanwath near Penrith.

He worked in various jobs with varying degrees of success, including as a milkman, meat pie packer, hotel worker and hairdresser.

But it wasn’t until later in life that he scored a notable occupational achievement – running a successful Eden taxi firm.

Ironically, Derek believes the business’s success could have contributed to the illness which claimed the life of his beloved soulmate, Carole Britto.

She managed the office of Moorside Taxis, which was the largest cab firms in the area, employing 18 drivers at one point.

Hall’s account of her death from cancer is the most heart-rending part of the book.
