Mr Greenwood’s comment on the Glebe - 'a far cry from a world class showcase' – leaves me speechless (Gazette, November 20, 'Bright future in store for Lakes).

Every summer thousands of visitors come to the Glebe and enjoy themselves. For two weeks Windermere and Ambleside Lions Club have been entertaining the crowds with our Festival of Fun.

Mr Greenwood, in partnership with the Lake District National Park Authority, wants to stop all that and turn the site into a twelve star luxury hotel so that only the very rich can enjoy themselves.

Surely what is needed on the Glebe is the removal of those concrete bunkers, one of which is the headquarters of Windermere Lake Cruises. Their removal would open up a magnificent view up the lake from the Glebe.

These bunkers were approved by no less an authority than the LDNPA.

It is a disgrace that us locals are prevented from deciding what is good for the future of the Glebe.

Mr Greenwood would be better employed in helping get rid of the quango that is today’s LDNPA instead of singing the praises of luxury hotel developers.
