SKYWATCH

There's a naked eye comet in the sky at the moment, so, of course, the weather has been dreadful! But if the clouds part over the next few days we should get a good look at Comet Lovejoy, once that big bright Moon has moved out of the way.

The comet is slowly moving up the sky to the right of the constellation Orion, easily spotted with its "belt" of three stars. The chart shows you where to look, but from the middle of a streetlit town or village you won't see it without binoculars. If you can get somewhere properly dark then you should see the comet as a small smudge in the sky. Don't expect to see a glorious tail stretching away from it. All you will see is what looks like an out of focus star in the sky.

Lovejoy won't be back for another 10,000 years, so do try and catch it if the sky clears, or you'll have a long wait...!
