Paul Bramham states that pavements are the domain of pedestrians and roads are for cars (Letters, August 13, 'Roads are the car's domain'). He conveniently forgets the thousands of cars parked on pavements every day.

He also states that “most motorists (quite rightly….) do not obey it” (the 20mph sign). Is he publicly advocating disregard of the law?

In the article on solar developments (Gazette, August 20, 'Surge in proposals for new solar developments') Adrian Todd states that “if you’re walking in the Howgills you’ll see (the solar development) as plain as day”. It's amazing how many pylons and mobile phone masts can be seen from the Howgills, not to mention railway lines and motorways.

From the western fells in the Lake District, Sellafield is plain as day. Spot the difference.
