By co-incidence there are two issues in focus on the same subject. The government is interested in involving the Chinese in building a new nuclear-powered reactor. In Cumbria we have a recently completed hydroelectric scheme with one to follow.

The difference in scale is enormous. In Britain and particularly Cumbria there is lots of water, most of which is supplied and stored for us already with minimal effort and cost. We are not short of wind either.

With potential energy supplied free there are highly skilled local jobs going if we harness it. May we develop this renewable energy and use it very carefully.

Lowering population gently and conveying to wind and wave power would help the planet.
