Having just read the article on Kendal Town Council debating whether to put more 20mph speed limits on certain roads in the town (Gazette, November 5. 'Speed limits attract substantial support'), I wonder how they are going to enforce these?
I have lived for years in a residential road in this town which is 20mph and have pleaded with both Cumbria County Council and Kendal Town Council to enforce the speed limit in this road, all to no avail.
There is a seizable proportion of motorists that do not, and will not, adhere to the law and they drive through this road far faster than the set limit and have no intentions of doing otherwise.
If this scheme goes ahead it will need police presence in all the roads concerned, and with the present cuts this may prove impossible. Otherwise, it will be a total waste of public money.
