I have in the past commented through the letters page that a relief road to access the industrial and retail areas of Shap Road at Kendal needs consideration. The recent floods, which have resulted in bridge closures in Kendal, highlight how vulnerable our transport infrastructure is.
If Kendal is to expand as planned, with additional housing and jobs, money needs to be found for a access road from Plumgarths roundabout to the A6 north of the town.
Without this new road the town will become one big traffic jam, causing huge delays which, in turn, will discourage investment in new businesses requiring access for both employees and goods.
You cannot deliver goods on the back of a bicycle as some of our green Councillors appear to think.
