The train journey to the Hawkshead Beer Festival at Staveley from Manchester Airport was at one time just one train straight through.

My friend tried the new timetable with the forthcoming beer festival in mind. His 9.30am departure from Manchester Airport allowed for a six-minute transfer at Preston. Because his train was delayed, he missed his connection to Oxenholme.

He eventually got to Oxenholme, only to find out that the next shuttle train to Windermere did not stop at Staveley. After travelling for three hours, he settled for Kendal.

Needless to say, he and his friends will not be coming up to this summer's beer festival.

How are elderly people and families with luggage expected to cope with a six-minute changeover at Preston? Why does not every shuttle train to Windermere stop at Staveley?
