Unless Windermere is notorious for apple throwing children in its memorial gardens, Windermere Town Council should do a U-turn and let the two apple trees be planted where they were intended (Gazette, June 2, 'No to apple trees').
Risk aversion upsets the quality of life needlessly.
They will fell the conker trees in case of conker falls on citizens, as Norwich did next.
The reason why clay-pipe fragments turn up buried (Nostalgia, June 2, 'Unheralded passing hid industrious tale') is that they were sweetened for re-use by burying them several weeks in the garden.
They often got broken there too.
