I read with interest some of the comments on the Westmorland Gazette's letters page a week after the referendum. It seems the fear factor is still being used. Doom and gloom from the pro EU brigade as compared to the optimism and upbeat views of the leave camp. My view is we have dodged a bullet. The EU continues down its well worn path to disaster. The rumblings of Turkey joining are becoming louder, as is the talk of an EU army. I cannot agree that the EU is some beacon of peace in Europe. They have brought us close to war with Russia by their expansionist ambitions in the Ukraine, have increased the rise of the right wing across Europe by oppressing freedom of democratic aspirations, have brought mass unemployment, have facilitated rape and violence across Europe and Scandinavia through uncontrolled migration of mainly young men from the Middle East and North Africa, eastern EU leaders are at each other's throats and putting up barbed wire because of Merkel's migrants, have facilitated the collapse of the euro through profligacy. Those of us who voted leave did so to secure the future of our children and grandchildren. They will thank us in time and the remain camp will realise the lies of the remain politicians. There is absolutely nothing about the EU that can be defended.
