NEWLY-ELECTED U.S. President Trump’s ‘America first’ policy is, by definition, isolationist.
Despite his campaign warnings, the reality of the change in outlook seems to have thrown much of the rest of the world off-balance and scrambling to decide how to react, a shift that will affect both friends and foes.
As America represents only 4.4 per cent of the world’s population, its relative insularity should prove more than survivable, while bringing both challenges and opportunities to the rest of the world.
Perhaps it will turn out to be a long overdue chance for the remaining 95.6 per cent to bring about a more balanced planet among people and nations.
Hopefully the United Kingdom can play a key role in this new order of sorts, while maintaining a sound relationship with America. Like it or not our strongest ally and the principal protector of freedom worldwide.
Indeed, let the United States be a safety net but not a crutch, as their current leaders must focus on some of their own internal injustices and problems at this time in history.
