Once a cyclist, I was interested in the report to improve cycle ways in Kendal, (Gazette, February 2, 'Cycleway work set from the off'), but I have my concerns, which, I know are shared my many walkers who share 'paths' with cyclists.

The best example is, the old canal path at Kendal. This path cycle way can a good pleasant walk from, behind the leisure centre to Canal Head (the walk can continue following the river along to Burneside).

But it is often dangerous and frightening, especially for older walkers, owing to the many cyclists who speed along, weaving in and out of walkers, dogs and mums with prams and toddlers, I am surprised there haven't been more accidents!

The only cyclists who are considerate and have a bell (which I thought was essential) are pensioners.

I have had to learn, as I walk daily along the canal banks and along the riverside, to keep in to one side and not to leave the edge of the path without looking behind to see the cyclists behind me, whom I do not hear.

It is simply manners and consideration for other people and ,as a grumpy old pensioner, I find there is a lot about these days.
