REGULARS to Flookburgh Band concerts cannot have failed to see percussionist Janet Horne racing round behind four timpani and around a dozen other complex instruments.

But what they have not seen is the equal amount of rushing around behind the scenes she has done for many years keeping the band’s music in order.

With a library of many hundreds of pieces, each with parts for 26 or more players, it is a task which takes time and organisation.

Yet modern brass band music is ever more demanding on the skills of the percussion section and Janet wants to take a break from the work as librarian to concentrate on making music.

Consequently the band is looking for someone to take on the job of looking after the music.

Fortunately, over the years, Janet has managed to computerise the band’s music catalogue, which will make the job somewhat easier for whoever takes the post.

If anyone is interested in helping out, please contact any band member, or speak to the band at the end of its next concert, the annual joint venture with the famous Houghton Weavers folk trio.

That concert is at the Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands on Saturday, May 13, at 7.30pm.
