We have had a lovely sunny spring. The rivers are at an all time low; the silt and gravel which are filling the river beds are clearly visible.
What a fantastic opportunity for the Environment Agency to arrange for the rivers to be dredged and clear the rivers of rubble to make space for the water that will surely come in the autumn and winter.
Years ago the rivers were cleared regularly and floods were not as disastrous as they were in Storm Desmond - a not usual happening, but we should be prepared.
