I ATTACH a photograph taken of a blocked drain gully at the top of High Street, Windermere. The gully has clearly not been cleaned or emptied for years and in its current condition it would certainly contribute to flash flooding further down the road. This is yet another example of a council (I believe this may be the responsibility of Cumbria County Council) failing to carry out basis maintenance and getting its priorities wrong. When the next flood happens can those affected or their insurers hold the council responsible for failing to carry out its statutory duties? I sometimes wonder what we pay our council tax for.
