You mentioned a number of local runners in the World Mountain Running Championships at Premana in Italy (Gazette, August 3, 'Tunstall claims bronze in Italy') but omitted my granddaughter Sarah McCormack, who finished fifteenth in a field of about 70 runners in the Senior Women class, where Sarah Tunstall ran a great race to finish third.
Although she runs internationally for Ireland she is a member of Ambleside AC and is well known on the fell running scene here. She was 18th in the European Championships in Slovenia a month ago.
Rebecca Robinson of Kendal AC, was 32nd in the same race.
I support Sarah Tunstall’s comments about the electric atmosphere prevailing in Premana throughout the event. It was quite inspiring but also bewildering without any English translation. The Italians clearly have great affection for their mountain runners and for their own language.
