CHESS has been in the local news recently. It stands for Cumbria Health Elderly Support Services and concerns dementia diagnosis etc.

Another CHESS is also relevant as we get older. Playing a complicated game like Chess makes the brain work and this exercise is good for it!

Most Chess clubs are struggling for members as youngsters prefer to look at screens but there may be older people who are looking for an activity to replace physical sport.

Why not try Kendal Chess Club ? We meet on Thursdays at Stricklandgate Methodist Church (Union Street entrance) starting at 7pm.

The first two weeks are free and we play friendly games, plus matches against other clubs if you want to get serious!

Details of other clubs are on the Cumbria Chess website.
