WITH regards to the 'car park' at New Road at Kendal, the fact is that the protestors defeat their own argument by talking about their 'rights'.

Common land is there for the use of everyone for whatever legal purpose they choose. Allowing 180 cars to park there means that everyone else is denied that right. It effectively creates a public nuisance.

Regardless of the arguments about whether you should be allowed to park there, this approach is selfish as it only takes into account the 'rights' of the people who want to dump their cars there.

What about the rest of us? What about the majority of us? I hope we speak up and I hope The Westmorland Gazette pays as much attention to us as it does to this minority of Kendalians who, in my opinion, are showing a rather backwards thinking image to those outside the area.
