IAN Nicholson won the Victoria Bowling Club Winter Open Singles Competition after a hard fought 11-3 victory against Victoria Club debutant Ian Mitchell.

The club competition, which entered into its second season, attracted a small but competitive number of bowlers from on what was a freezing cold afternoon of action.

Nicholson booked his place in the final after a competitive 11-7 victory against former cup holder Alan Gilpin, while Mitchell saw off Alan Medcalf 11-7 in the other semi-final tie.

There was also a consolation prize up for grabs, as the two defeated quarter finalists in Joey Bean and Mike Simpson went head to head in what proved to be a titanic tussle for glory. Simpson in the end prevailed after a close 9-8 victory over Bean, where the action went down to the last ball.

Victoria Bowling Club will host an Invitation Pairs Competition on Saturday, March 3, where a member of the club asks a non-member to partner them in a competition. This competition was introduced after a lady from Nottingham returned a trophy from 1909 that belonged to her great grandfather.
