I was waiting at Oxenholme Railway station for the 07.24 train to London on a recent Saturday. The train which started at Glasgow was on time. At the other side of the station was a train bound for Windermere.

The Windermere train left Oxenholme as per the timetable at 07.21. The next train to Windermere was 08.46.

Can Northern Rail explain how this equates to the quote from the Regional Director in the report 'Commuters turning backs on Lakes Line' (Gazette, April 5), in which she said: "We are absolutely committed to delivering the best possible service for those who live in, and visit, the Lake District." Admittedly the London bound train was run by Virgin but it would take just one simple phone call between companies to give that "best possible service."
