With regards to the decision to cut down the tree in Bowness, did anyone at Cumbria County Council consider the enormous amount of CO2 that the tree absorbed during it's long life?
The air quality at that junction will now be very much worse at the height of the visitor season when traffic is particularly heavy and tree would have been in full leaf if only a little maintenance had been carried out.
