NOW that the Lake District has achieved World Heritage Site status and being pushed as a place of peace and tranquility, both noise and light pollution need to be tackled effectively. The last couple of years have seen a sharp rise in both.

Windermere lake has a wonderful waterside path that extends from the ferry north to Wray Castle. It attracts, walkers, cyclists and fishermen.

However, it is blighted by a small group of selfish power boat owners, who insist on playing loud music while they ski and waterboard.

The noise is audible well inland and across the water, from two miles away. It can be heard clearly indoors, even when the windows are closed.

There is no control of this menace. The lake wardens can only speak to the boat owners, but they have no powers to stop them.

If this was happening on a housing estate, it would be quickly dealt with by the council or the police.

It is disgusting that this continues while frustration among the local community is allowed to grow.

The residents and visitors to Claife parish are left to endure something that can last all day long.

As the season has only just started both I and my parish residents would like to know what can be done to stop this now.
