I'm sure that being provocative is part of the brief, but it is simply outrageous of Allan Tunningley to suggest that cyclists should keep off the roads (Allan Tunningley column, April 26, ‘Not cycling to longevity’).
Certainly some parts of some highways are best avoided but, in the main, riding with care is safe enough. And it encourages - what is sorely needed - driving with care, and respect for other road users.
Should walkers, too, simply abandon the tarmac, does he think? And then what's next? Are we to sandbag our house just in case some clod in a 4x4 wants to run through the village at 80mph?
Go the Tunningley route and it's the end of civilization as we know it.
