KENDAL Town begin their quest for promotion this weekend, as the 2009/2010 Unibond Premier Division season opens.

Town, who narrowly missed out on a play-off final appearance last season, will be looking to make a good start as they host a much changed Worksop Town side at Parkside Road.

If pre-season is anything to go by all Kendal Town fans will be in for a treat, as they have only lost once and have banged plenty of goals into the opposition nets.

Ashy (Lee Ashcroft) has added to the squad, bringing in Mark Wane,Glen Steel, and signing Keiran Walmsley and Warren Beattie on more permanent deals following loan spells last season.

The only real departure is Dan Wordsworth who has left due to work commitment. However their may be a time when the club could get him back in the future. However for now Ashy is happy to go with the squad that he has.

Off the field sees a new physio, and fitness trainer join the club, and in the administration side of things Graham O Callaghan is the new commercial manager.

Town's opponents at the weekend, Worksop Town, have gone through al ot of change, adding a lot of pace and youth to their side, and from previous experience, they will make life diffcult for Kendal, especially at Parkside, where they drew 0-0 their last season.

Kendal, in fact, have not won an opening day fixture for the past two seasons, and this is the first time that they have started at home on the opening day for quite a while. The last time Town opened on home turf was when they hosted Leek Town.

All the support the club can get is important as attendances were low for most of the season and despite an increase near the end, more people need to come to Parkside, for the club to be succesful, especially in current financially challenging times.

There will be a variety of different things going on this season to try and boost the attendances and interest in the club.

So come down on Saturday and cheer the team on to what hopefully will be the start of a succesful season.
