Kendal Wattsfield went 2nd in the league after a 4-1 win over Carlisle City on a freezing cold Wednesday night at Parkside Road.

Their was a late change to the KW team line up when keeper Kim Lupton sustained an injury prior to kick off. The injury seemed to knock the girls off balance as they made a slow start to the match. Despite having the majority of the 1st half, KW could only fashion a couple of chances, with Becca Knowles effort the more clear cut, after she saw her attempt just go wide of the left hand post.

Carlisle City were very committed and had a good chance of their own as both sides went in 0-0 at the break.

At the start of the 2nd half KW continued to press forward, putting the opposition on the back foot, and the continual pressure soon told when Becca Knowles hit a powerful left foot shot which flew into the corner of the net.

With KW 1-0 infront, they continued to press forward, squandering some excellent chances. However Carlisle City fought back and had a good 10 minute spell forcing keeper Nikita Morton into some good saves. However the keeper had little chance when Carlisle City equalised with 15 minutes to go. The goal came about after a good cross from the right hand side was finished well from close range.

The equaliser seemed to spur the KW girl’s on and within 5 minutes of the equaliser, KW went 2-1 in front after Emma Lifshitz shot from the edge of the box was fumbled by the keeper and into the back of the net.

Joanne Thompson made the game safe with a 3rd, running through unopposed to slot past the keeper.

Vicky Jones then got her 1st goal for the team in the 90th minute after she placed a superb free kick over the wall past the static keeper sealing a terrific 4-1 victory.

Overall: KW faced a stronger Carlisle team to what they faced on the opening day of the season, It was a game in which KW controlled throughout, with their passing and movement improving as the match proceeded The team now look forward to the top of the table battle with Whitehaven on Sunday at Parkside Road.
