Reablement is a service provided by Cumbria County Council through the Adult Social Care department. It aims to help people regain their independence following an illness, disability or loss of their personal support network. It is free, and provided for up to 6 weeks.

The service aims to help and support you to do things for yourself, rather than do them for you, with the goal that you will soon be ‘back on your feet’. Perhaps you have had an operation, illness or accident and need some extra help with day-to-day tasks like getting dressed, preparing meals and doing household chores.

Almost everyone is entitled to Reablement, but lots of people just don’t know about it. You need to be over 18 years of age, live in Cumbria and be able to live at home with some support. Contact your local Adult Social Care Office to find out more on 01539 713378 or 713331.

It may be that after an illness or operation you are struggling financially as well as physically, remember the CAB is here to help. We can give you advice about benefits specific to your circumstances and let you know about other sources of help and support in our area.

Free, confidential advice and help is available from the Citizens Advice Bureau on any aspect of debt, benefits, employment, housing and any other problems. You can contact the Grange or Windermere Citizens Advice Bureau by phone or in person. Call 015395 33100 / 015394 46464 or www.cumbriaruralcab.org.uk
