I’m back with my column about life as a sheep farmer.

This week, we have been busy relocating Selside and Grayrigg show. Brian, my husband, is the show chairman and following the week’s forecast on Sunday, Brian and some other committee members decided to relocate the show from Grayrigg to the Kendal Auction Mart.

As you can imagine this is no easy task.

They decided not to cancel as the weather has beaten us for the last two years and we were determined not to let it beat us again.

As well as the show, these next two weeks we are getting the mule gimmer (girl) lambs ready for the sales in the next few weeks.

They are some of the biggest sales of our year. Buyers come from as far away as Devon.

The sheep are dipped three times, in pearl, a solution mixed in water that makes the wool curl. It is a bit like us going for a perm.

The hair on their heads is also clipped – a bit like us having a number one haircut – their faces and legs washed, and then vaccinated.

We also have the Westmorland County Show to think about.

The Rough Fell Sheep Stand will be there, so come and have a chat!
