WE HAVE been busy with our spring work such as chain harrowing and rolling the land to push down any loose stones which have appeared over winter.
We do this to minimise the risk of damming any machinery and to stop any soil getting into the silage.
We’ve also started sowing fertiliser now warmer weather has finally landed and at long last our grass is starting to grow which is great to see.
My own small flock of Mule ewes are on with lambing, and it is also great to see lambs skipping and playing in the sun.
We’ve also been selling calves again at the mart this week and the trade was very strong for Continental calves.
However, I’m getting more and more concerned about the UK dairy industry as the price of milk doesn’t seem to be moving up.
I think its extremely important that we talk the job up and definitely don’t talk it down because many producers are walking a fine line.
