WELL things are as busy as ever at the moment and we’ve got our first cut silage off.

It wasn’t as heavy a crop as normal due to the dry weather but by heck is it good stuff!

The sun did a wonderful job of getting sugar levels up in the grass so fingers crossed we should have a clamp full of rocket fuel for winter to feed to the dairy cows.

We silaged a fortnight earlier than usual due to my elder sister getting married this weekend - she’s having a marquee at the farm so we needed to get the silage done so it didn’t all happen at the same weekend. So good luck to Sarah and Phil for the future.

We’ve also got all the fertiliser on the silage ground ready for second cut and we’ve also got all the slurry out on the silage ground, so let’s just hope it chucks a bit of a shower down one night soon to get the fertiliser washed in and growing.

I’m also hoping to get my sheep clipped this week as I’ve had quite a few ewes this last week getting sent on their backs.

And the young farmers have been busy with field day near Appleby.

It was a great day out - even though I ended up doing the cross country - and was followed by an excellent night do.
