DESPITE the recent bad weather, during a gap in the rain we took a chance at trying to get our third cut silage - and the gamble paid off.

We mowed it on the Saturday and then chopped it on the Sunday, and although the ground conditions weren’t overly brilliant we managed to get it done without making any mess, and it was a good crop of grass. The pit was full which was a good sight to see.

All our grass seeds are well through now which we are happy about, so we’ve turned the sheep into some of the fields of seeds already so the sheep can graze them off before the frost comes and burns the leaves of the grass.

I’ve also had a bit a tidying up to do around the farm and had a load of scrap metal taken away this week. Scrap gains a good price at the moment so we took it to J.Millers and Sons Scrap Merchants in Ulverston.

We’re also on with cleaning out ditches and becks at the moment to prevent land from becoming water logged so that the water can get away without any hold ups.

We’ve also brought the last of our dry cows in this week and they were quite happy to come inside where it was warm and dry.

On the YFC front, we’re as busy as ever with all the district quiz rounds taken place at the moment.
