A KENDAL couple who looked after orphaned and injured hedgehogs for 10 years have won an award.

Roger and Margaret Dixon, of Kirkbarrow, were presented with the Julian Dixon Memorial Shield for outstanding services to animals at the RSPCA Westmorland branch annual general meeting.

Mrs Dixon said they had thoroughly enjoyed looking after the hedgehogs but did not miss getting up at 2am and 6am for feeds. They had to reluctantly retire due to Mr Dixon’s health.

Mike Hogg (RSPCA regional manager) and Alan Green (RSPCA Westmorland branch chair) presented the award along with a book token.
