KENDAL Bowmen held their fourth annual Longbow shoot at Kendal Cricket Club.
Competitors braved the persistent rain which did not break all day, everyone was shooting traditional English Longbows and wooden arrows based on the design used in the Georgian and Victorian times.
Each competitor was shooting a Western round which comprises of four dozen arrows at 60 yards and four dozen at 50 yards.
Janice Parrott of White Rose Archers was the winner of the ladies' competition, while Sarah Davnel from Bowmen of Bruntwood claimed the runners up spot, with Lynn Young from Riverside Archers in Newcastle finishing in third place.
The men's winner was David Whitham of White Rose, second was Stephen Williams of The Longbow Club, Birkenhead, and third place went to Walter Herd of Samlesbury Longbow Archers, Preston.
The junior winner was Kendal Bowmen member Ethan King.
Other awards were Best Gold won by Roger Brasenell, Kendal Bowmen; Best Red won by Alison Williams of The Longbow Club; Highest Kendal Bowmen member score, Laurence Airey.
The main competition was followed by a Wand Shoot where competitors use one arrow to try and hit a 6 inch wide pole, this year won by Janice Parrott.
