Cumberland County Cricket defeated Northumberland by five wickets in a three-day minor counties game played at Furness Cricket Club.

Toby Bulcock and Matthew Mc Kiernan were the stars of the show after both made match-winning contributions.

Bulcock ended up taking 11 wickets in the three day game while Mc Kiernan posted a first innings knock of 100 before finishing on an undefeated 86 to guide Cumberland to victory. Michael Slack also bowled well with a return of 5-29.

Cumberland put Northumberland into bat, a decision which paid dividends after Jack Jessop was bowled by M. Lowden. Cumberland continued to apply the pressure while Toby Bulcock picked up the wicket of T. Hewitson.

Michael Slack went on to reduce the visitors to 117-7 after collecting the wickets of James Thompson, Alexander Simpson, Jacques De Toit, Sameet Brar and Bradley Yates, who were all trapped LBW while Slack finished with a return of 5-29.

Bulcock ripped through to see off Sean Tindale, Alisdair Appleby and Oliver McGee as Northumberland were all out for 141 off 66 overs. Bulcock finished with figures of 4-57.

With a below par total to chase, Cumberland replied with a knock of 285 off 66.2 overs, Matthew McKiernan gota century knock of 100 off 94 balls while Sam Dutton posted 84 off 89 balls. Northumberland's key bowler was Sameet Brar with figures of 5-76 and Sean Tindale who returned figures of 4-70.

In the second innings Toby Bulcock ripped through the visitors with a return of 7-108 as Northumberland were skittled out for 318 off 102 overs. Northumberland's Alexander Simpson scored 76 and Sameet Brar made 40 runs.

Cumberland, set a relatively competitive chase for the win, knocked the runs off in 49.3 overs, as they closed on 177-5. Matthew McKiernan was the match winner with an undefeated knock of 86 off 124 balls.

McKiernan saving the day after Cumberland were under some pressure at 53-5.
