Ambleside defeated Keswick Seconds 4-1 on a bright and sunny afternoon at Kirkbie Kendal’s Cinder Ovens playing surface.

The Greens had to battle hard for the win, especially in the first half, against a resilient opponent that are in a relegation battle at the bottom of the table.

Ambleside applied a lot of pressure to Keswick’s D, but the visitors were proving difficult to break down as Ambleside remained patient.

However, Ambleside finally made the breakthrough after Maddie Townson prodded the ball into the net from close range. Townson picked up the loose ball in the D before slotting home past the keeper.

Keswick equalised five minutes later from a penalty corner after Ambleside failed to clear away the danger.

Ambleside regrouped and edged in front when a powerful shot by Donna Robinson deflected into the net as the keeper was left stranded.

After a positive half time team talk Ambleside dominated the second half as they passed the ball around with more precision and created lots of opportunities.

Ambleside made it 3-1 through a clinical finish by Jess Young before Young scored her second and Ambleside’s 4th goal as the hosts ran out 4-1 winners.

Ambleside travel to play Ulverston on Saturday while Ambleside’s Netherwood Team host Kendal Thirds on Sunday.
