Kendal Ladies seconds suffered a heavy 12-2 defeat to Penrith Ladies at The Cinder Ovens playing surface.

Kendal’s youthful team battled throughout and showed plenty of promise against an impressive Penrith team.

The hosts made a strong start and opened the scoring when Hannah Cartwright placed the ball into the net. Cartwright, who was clean through on goal, found time and space in the D before placing the ball home from close range.

However, the lead lasted a matter of seconds as Claire Hewson soon equalised for the visitors.

From that point, the flood gates opened as the visitors surged into a five goal lead, with Hewson going on to complete her hat trick. The visitors completed the first half rout when Lisa Shaw and Sophie Hunter scored.

Penrith dominated the second half and Hewson added two more goals to complete her five goal haul as Penrith eased into a 7-1 lead.

Kendal pulled one back after Cartwright scored her second of the game, while the host created opportunities through Becca Barnes and Cartwright.

But Penrith surged their way to victory when Shaw scored twice to complete her hat trick, before Sophie Hunter, Barbara Deane and Rachel Davidson completed the rout.

Kendal have this weekend off before they host Dalston Seconds on Saturday 24 February.
