KENDAL Bowman’s fifth annual Longbow Shoot was held on Sunday at Kendal Cricket Club. The event, which was attended by archers from across England, battled the cold weather conditions while most other sports were cancelled.

All competitors were shooting traditional English longbows and arrows which are made of wood based on the design used in the Georgian and Victorian times.

Each participant shot a Western Round of four dozen arrows at 60 yards as well as four dozen arrows at 50 yards.

Nina Horton of The Longbow Club won the female prize while Ken Wilcock from Keswick Archers picked up the men's award.

Patrick Newell from Kendal Bowmen, meanwhile, won the junior award after overcoming some tough opposition.

The other award winners were David Whitham who claimed the best gold prize, while Mark Wright picked up the best red award.

In the final prize of the day Leslie Wynn from White Rose Archers won the Wand Shoot.
