Netherfield lost by three wickets to St Anne’s at Parkside Road.

The defending Northern Premier League Champions posted a competitive first innings score of 180-9, after Ben Barrow top scored with 57. However St Anne’s edged their way to victory during the second innings when Richard Staines posted an undefeated knock of 32 as the visitors closed on 181-7 off 49.1 overs.

Netherfield made an imposing start to the first innings after Ben Barrow and Brad Earl posted a dominant first wicket stand of 57.

St Anne’s who toiled in the early exchanges made a crucial bowling change after Indian professional Amar Ullah and new signing Muhammad Imran Sadiq were brought into the attack.

The switch made an instant impact after Ullah bowled Earl for 33. Ullah who was bowling spin picked up his second wicket moments later when New Zealand paid man Jack Boyle was dismissed.

Barrow and John Huck guided Netherfield onto 89, before Huck picked out Matthew Derham off the bowling of Tom Higson.

Netherfield battled back after both Barrow and Josh Dixon posted a fourth wicket stand of 37 and edged onto 126.

However the momentum swung back in St Anne’s favour when Mohamed Nadeem bowled Ben Barrow for 57 before Muhammad Imran Sadiq picked up the wicket of Dixon who was caught by Jamar Ifill.

Lewis Edge and Lewis Richardson pushed the score onto 158 before Edge was stumped by Staines off the bowling of Ullah, while Richardson was bowled by Tom Higson. Netherfield toiled after Higson picked up the wicket of Mark Clarkson before Ullah returned figures of 4-45 to dismiss Matt Jackson while Netherfield closed on 180-9.

Netherfield made a good start to the second innings when Henry Higson picked out Jack Boyle after playing at Nathan Chambers delivery.

Gurman Baines and Imran Sadiq led the recovery with a second wicket stand of 55, before Hadwin broke the partnership to dismiss Sadiq.

Lewis Edge ran out Mohamed Nadeem before Jack Boyle saw off Amar Ullah who picked out Mark Clarkson.

The Field with all the momentum saw Chambers take the wicket of Jamar Ifill while St Annes slumped onto 114-5.

Netherfield edged closer to victory when Gurman Baines was dismissed for a top score of 39 after being stumped by Edge off the bowling of Boyle.

St Anne’s recovered and while Nathan Chambers picked up the wicket of Nathan Armstrong, the visitors edged victory after Richard Staines posted a knock of 32.
