On Friday, August 9, I was returning from Windermere to Kendal. Dropping into Kendal on the Windermere Road, it took me 55 minutes to get to the Lesiure Centre.

Fifty five minutes! Is Kendal suddenly a big city like Manchester or Birmingham? No, it is a town.

Yet because of all the traffic lights and the badly designed traffic system around the town, the build up of traffic is getting worse.

It should not take 55 minutes to get from one end of town to the other, on a normal day in the middle of the afternoon when there is no school run or people leaving work.

The worst culprit is the new traffic lights at Kirkland.

Not only is there the build of traffic from the lights at K Village but there is also the problem of the traffic coming in from Milnthorpe Road trying to merge with the traffic coming over Nether Bridge and then trying to get in the lane that people need.

Who comes up with these ideas and plans?

I also note the recent speedometer that has been put up on Aynam Road. This is a step in the right direction but is it really going to make a difference with the boy racers.

And what about parking for the residents of Aynam Road?

Come on ‘Powers that be ‘ - Kendal is fast becoming an unfriendly town for visitors and locals alike.

The whole system needs revising and acting upon sooner rather than later.
