The cost to the taxpayer of the proposal for a new nuclear power plant at Hinckley Point is obscene.

This action is born out of desperation by the government wanting to be seen to be doing something about the self-inflicted generation crisis, albeit too late.

If we had not wasted billions on useless wind turbines this money would have been available to build our own nuclear power stations and provide efficient power at a lower cost.

There is no evidence that any CO2 has been saved by wind - indeed the opposite is the case.

Power stations will not shut down a boiler when wind comes on line, as they are needed at short notice when the wind drops.

All that happens is the cheap electricity is dumped through the cooling towers and we are forced to pay for the expensive green electricity.

I said many years ago that we should be investing in new nuclear. If anything, that would have given a far greater reduction in CO2 to appease the greens, if you happen to believe in man-made global warming, which I do not.

The rush for more wind power is total madness as you would need at least three Ormonde windfarms at full output to equal the output of just one of the six drax B generators.

These generators cover a tiny fraction of the area of wind farms.

It does not make sense to consider wind as being part of the energy mix when there are long periods when wind power does not exist and therefore at those times it cannot be considered.
