How dementia friendly is our community?
People living with dementia may feel confused, anxious and isolated, and even that they lose friends after diagnosis. Many lose the confidence to go out and about and it helps if they know that the general public and, for instance, shop assistants will show patience and understanding.
May 18 marked the start of national Dementia Awareness Week and readers may have seen the current ad campaign on ITV asking people to become Dementia Friends by watching a short video on the website www.dementiafriends.org.uk or by attending a one-hour information session locally.
If anyone is interested in understanding a bit more about what it is like living with dementia and the little things we can do to make a difference, please email elspeth.horsman@gmail.com.
I am happy to give talks to private, social or business groups.
