Preston Richard Parish Council fought long and hard for flashing lights and a 20mph speed limit outside St Patrick's Church of England school. They were finally installed two months ago by local authority employees but their location leaves a great deal to be desired.
The unfortunate siting of one set (apart from been totally obscured by foliage) is it is adjacent to a street lamp that has been the subject of repeated damage by passing HGVs.
The other was sited so near the school crossing that only drivers with the reaction of a Formula 1 driver would have time to react before being in danger of mowing down children.
The parish council is using a speed gun to try to stop vehicles exceeding the 30mph speed limit through the village (the highest speed recorded recently was 61 miles per hour). However, it appears the remaining deceleration warning signs on the A65 have been removed by someone. Was it by those who erected the new flashing lights? Despite requests to the relevant departments for answers, we are still no wiser.
Speedy responses from the relevant authority departments would be most welcome.

Chairman, Preston Richard Council
