It was interesting to read your report on the British Athletics Fell and Hill Running Relay Championships held on Middleton Fell on October 19.

As mentioned by Fraser Livesey, the overall co-ordinator, who has 'lived and breathed' the event for at least 18 months, it was a marvellous day out.

The organisation by two small clubs, Dallam Runners and Howgill Harriers, was superb and their members are to be congratulated for their hard work in making it such a successful event.

Just about all their members helped in one way or another, from putting up marquees in the days before the event to directing car-parking, registering competitors, checking kit, marshalling check points on the fell for many hours and many other tasks required on the day, to say nothing of the clearing up afterwards.

Without these volunteers such an event would not be possible and it was good that this event was brought to the South Lakes.
