On Good Friday this year, April 3, the streets of Kendal town centre will once more be full with a huge audience watching ‘A Passion for Kendal’ performed by Kendal Community Theatre. More than 1,000 people came in 2012.

This year we have a real shortage of stewards who are needed to help marshal the crowds safely as the drama unfolds.

The first scene is outside Kendal Library and the crucifixion is in the Brewery Garden, with other scenes in the Market Place and at the town hall.

We need stewards to keep an eye on the scenery staging before and after the play and, most importantly, to man the road blocks.

Road closures on Highgate and Allhallows Lane will be kept to the minimum time possible but it is crucial that these are staffed so that motorists can find alternative routes.

We estimate that more than 50 stewards are required. Westmorland Gazette readers who feel able to be stewards and in this way take part in the drama should please get in touch. I can be contacted by email at lizfordslater@yahoo.co.uk or by telephone on 01539 740622.
