I want to send thank the residents of Kirkby Lonsdale for their help after my family and I found ourselves in difficult circumstances!

We were visiting Kirkby Lonsdale from London for my brother's wedding and, as we arrived in the town, I realised that my bag with all my wedding clothes, the directions to the church and everything we needed for the weekend was still on the train to Glasgow. The girls had their clothes in different bags thankfully, but I had nothing to wear and we had no idea where we were going and we only had a rough idea of the time the wedding started!

With an hour and a half until the wedding started we were desperate. The ladies in the charity shop did their very best but couldn't get me a suit or shoes in the right size.

Laurence Barrie's was brilliant though! Not only did I get a great suit, the proprietor didn't take advantage of my desperation and did everything he could to keep the cost down.

Meanwhile, the staff at The Pheasant Inn, where we were staying, had made it their responsibility to get my partner and daughter to the right church (St Joseph's, as it turned out) but I was still unsure where I was going - although at least I had a suit, shirt and tie (slightly let down by the Timberland boots!)

I was driving around aimlessly looking for the church when I had the very good fortune to lower my window and ask directions of a man I believe to be Councillor Nicholas Cotton, who didn't just direct me to the correct church but jumped into the car, took me to a place to park and then walked me to the church - getting me there just as the bride arrived, with my partner and daughter arriving shortly after.

I won't say it was the greatest experience of my life, but two days and one great wedding later I can honestly say my family and I are completely in awe at the kindness and support shown by complete strangers in Kirkby Lonsdale. As my partner said, you all totally saved the day! Thank you to everyone who helped make our special day even more special, and well done Kirkby Lonsdale. You're great!
