Does anyone know the origin of the slab of stone with the letter ‘H’ engraved on it on the top of Harter Fell?
My son and I went for a walk up Kentmere Pike and then Harter Fell and Goatsgarth Pass on Wednesday, April 8 to remember my late husband, Harry Barker, who would have been 79 that day.
Harry was the manager at Lakeland Creameries in Kendal for several years before he retired and took up a job as a 'paper boy' at Westmorland General Hospital in the town.
It was a lovely coincidence to come across the letter ‘H’ carved into the stone – a very poignant moment for us both when we were remembering Harry, who was a much-loved husband and father.
It was a happy coincidence on a very memorable day, made even more special by the beautiful weather.
