Although we have plenty of choice and competition between the energy suppliers as to who we decide to buy our gas and electricity from, there is no options as to who we obtain our water.
In some instances consumers are paying nearly as much for water as gas and electricity combined.
The production costs of both gas and electricity are considerably higher than those for water, yet water charges continue to increase year on year.
If all properties had water meters installed, this would open up the water industry to competition. Metering water would make households aware of the amount of water they use and encourage consumers to make savings in there water consumption.
As the population continues to grow both in the UK and around the world, the future supply of water will become critical.
